Show & Tell: Vintage Biscuit Tins

One of the few collections I have is vintage biscuit tins. The shapes, colors, and patterns just draw me in. There are two reasons why they are perfect items for me to collect: 1) They are unbreakable, and 2) They are fairly cheap. I have never been one who's interested in collecting fragile, expensive knickknacks.

I purchased my biscuit tins for just a couple dollars each at yard sales and thrift stores. Most (if not all) of them were made in England, and originally held English tea cookies. Very recently, I decided to hang two shelves on my bedroom wall so that I'd have a place to display my small collection. I really enjoy being able to look at them, especially in the morning light.

  1. Oh, these are VERY cool. I had no idea biscuit tins could be so pretty! And I'd say inexpensive and unbreakable is a great combination for something you're collecting. Can't beat that.

    Thanks for sharing! :-)

  2. Thanks for the nice comments on my blog. I LOVE you biscuit tin collection! I too collect tins. Especially the ones from England. Some of the ones I collect are the Blue Bird Confection tins, have you ever heard of them. It's so much fun to look for them while out antiquing. Your's are wonderful, such pretty colors. Thanks for sharing your collection. Hugs, Debbie

  7. You are so practical! You seem to have a great knack for taking the inexpensive and making it look fabulous! English tins seem to have a nice heavy duty weight to them. Good quality items are worth collecting and displaying. Even if (and in my case too) they aren't expensive and breakable.

  8. I love your tins.

I love things that just make me happy to look at them. That sounds like a simple rule for collecting, doesn't it? But so often broken, I think :)
