Summer Reading

Whew! I cannot believe how long it's been since I last posted. I took a little time off from blogging for several reasons. For one, I've somehow developed "tennis elbow" in my right arm, which would be easy to explain if I played, um, tennis. Of course, you don't have to be a tennis player to get "tennis elbow" but I haven't been doing any repetitive motions, except, perhaps using the computer. My cervical disc problems combined with the atrophy in my arm muscles has played some part, we're convinced.

Also, I've been trying to slowly wean myself from pain meds, which is, well, let's just say NOT FUN. So, my focus over the past month has been spending more quality time with my family. To both give my elbow a rest, and to put fewer pressures on myself, I took a break from the computer. Plus, I kinda wanted to test myself to see just how long I could manage to stay away. Blogging (particularly reading the blogs of others) can really become addicting, if you haven't already noticed.

Meanwhile, I was worried that I'd lose all my followers while I was on my unscheduled break, but, I was happy to find that I actually gained a few new followers. Welcome, to my new followers. And, thanks to my loyal blogging buddies who continue to check in here from time to time. Now, onto my planned post:

Ever since I was a little girl, summer has always been about having more time for my favorite pastime: reading. Over the last month or so, I've been combing my local Salvation Army Thrift Store for interesting books. Here's a shot of the result of one of my thrifting expeditions...

Over several trips to the thrift store, I have collected the following pile of books. I plan to delve into as many as I can over the next couple of months. I'd love to get some feedback if you've read any of them. Are any must-reads? Which are only so-so? I'd really enjoy hearing what you think?

10 gracious thoughts:

  1. It looks like you have a good amount of summer reading ahead. I am always on the lookout for books at our Salvation Army and Goodwill too. Happy reading!!

  3. Hey Michelle,
Have been away myself. Life just got in the way! I do love reading everyones blogs.
Thanks for the summer reading suggestions. I am now reading "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Piccoult. Sometimes she is hard to follow, but I am always glad I hang in there when it is finished.
I haven't read any of those in your chair. Will be curious to see what comments you get on them.
Thanks! Glad your back! Hope you are tip top soon! HUGS!

  4. I didn't know that Ginger Pye came out in paperback! Eleanor Estes was my favorite author when I was a kid. Love the Moffats.
When I want to "get away from it all", I reread it.

  7. Oh my, Eleanor Estes. I just loved her books about the Moffitts!

Are you coming to BlogHer, missy? We can compare aches and pains! I've got tendonitis in my left shoulder and a lower back thing, too. Both are conspiring to keep me out of the gym and on my ass ... how am I supposed to look fabulous at BlogHer when I'm lurching about jiggling my celulite all over the place????
